SLEEPING DIRECTION GUIDE
If you want the short version: South is the strongest traditional recommendation, East is also favorable, West is generally acceptable, and North is usually avoided.
According to Vastu Shastra, sleeping with your head toward South is generally considered the best choice.
East is also considered favorable and is traditionally linked with clarity, learning, and fresh energy.
West is usually treated as acceptable, though it is not commonly preferred as strongly as South or East.
North is traditionally discouraged for head placement in Vastu sleeping guidance.
HOW TO READ IT
When this page says sleeping direction, it means the direction your head points while you are lying in bed. The furniture may “face” a different way in the room, but Vastu sleeping direction is about the pillow/head side.
Example: if your pillow is on the South side and your feet point North, your sleeping direction is South. That is exactly what this tool is built to check.
Open the tool on your phone, place the phone flat on your bed, and point the top edge of the phone toward your pillow or headboard. Then tap Enable Compass and use Check My Sleeping Direction.
Keep the phone still during the 3-second check. The result locks your head direction, calculates the feet direction as the exact opposite, and shows a short traditional Vastu interpretation.
South is the main recommendation in traditional Vastu Shastra and is the safest default if you are arranging a bed according to Vastu principles. East is another favorable choice, especially in traditions that associate it with learning, clarity, and freshness.
West is usually considered acceptable, but South and East are more commonly preferred. North is generally avoided for head placement in traditional Vastu guidance.
Vastu Shastra traditionally advises against sleeping with the head toward North. Traditional explanations connect North with the Earth’s magnetic orientation and describe head-to-North alignment as unfavorable for restful sleep.
That is a Vastu principle, not an established medical rule. We keep the tool simple: measure the direction accurately, then show the traditional interpretation without pretending it is medical science.
The Sleeping Direction Compass uses the same direction engine as our regular online compass. On a supported, calibrated phone, it is designed to give a clear real-time heading while the phone lies flat on the bed.
Like any compass, it can be nudged by magnets, metal bed frames, large speakers, laptops, chargers, and magnetic phone accessories. If the result looks odd, move obvious interference away and check again. North has not secretly moved.
FAQ
Quick answers about sleeping direction, bed direction, and Vastu Shastra guidance.
For direction, Vastu generally recommends sleeping with your head toward South. East is another favorable option, while North is generally avoided. Here, “sleeping position” means direction, not whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach.
Vastu sleeping guidance is normally based on the direction of your head, not where your face turns after you lie down. If you sleep sideways, your face may point a different way during the night. For this tool, point the top of the phone toward your pillow and measure the head direction.
South is generally considered the best direction according to Vastu Shastra. East is also considered favorable. If you are following traditional Vastu sleeping-direction guidance, avoid placing your head toward North.
The important measurement is the head or pillow end of the bed. For a Vastu-oriented arrangement, place the bed so your head points South while sleeping; East is another favorable setup. Do not confuse this with the decorative “front” of the bed frame.
North is the direction traditionally avoided for head placement in Vastu sleeping guidance. If your head points North while you sleep, Vastu traditions usually recommend choosing another direction when practical.
Vastu traditions generally treat South as the most favorable overall sleeping direction. East is also considered auspicious or favorable. The compass measures direction; it does not promise luck on demand.
If “facing north” means your head points North, Vastu generally says no. If your face happens to point North while you are lying sideways, that is not the measurement this tool uses. The tool checks where your head points.
Traditional Vastu explanations connect North with the Earth’s magnetic orientation and describe head-to-North alignment as unfavorable for restful sleep. This is Vastu reasoning rather than proven medical physics, so the tool presents it as traditional guidance.
Head toward South is generally the primary recommendation in Vastu Shastra. East is also favorable, West is usually acceptable, and North is traditionally avoided for head placement.
